Your Mindset Matters

You’re going to hear many things about yourself.

This world will tell you many things. Your day-to-day challenges will tell you many things. Your weaknesses, your mistakes, your stumbles along the way will tell you many things. People who do not like you, people who do not really even know you, people who are fearful or jealous of your potential, people in general will tell you many things. People are going to judge you. People are going to talk negatively about you. There are people who will rejoice any time they feel that you have failed. The truth is, you’re going to encounter many forms of negativity.

Everyone encounters negativity, perhaps not always in the same form or at the same time in life–but negativity has set appointments with everyone. The first thing I would like to make clear is that being hurtful to other people is never ok. Wanting to see other people hurt is never ok. Celebrating another person’s downfall is never ok. Judging a person without getting to know their story or how they feel about their own situation, is never ok. Encouraging each other is very important, because every day we cross paths with someone who has encountered negativity.

No matter what, you have to know yourself better than anyone else. You have to know that God created you for a great purpose, because negativity is only designed to distract you from your God-given purpose. Negativity only wants you to get off track so that you will not accomplish the positive things you were created to do. You have to have the mindset that you are going to accomplish your God-given purpose no matter what. It’s not always easy to have that mindset, but it’s always important. All of life may come against you, but as long as you’re still alive–your purpose is still alive! Your mindset matters. The second you begin to believe the negativity attacking you, is the same second you begin to give power to that negativity. Regardless of your situation, God created you to do great things, to be a blessing to others, to do positive works, and to make the world a better place. Negativity will not appreciate your gifts and talents. Negativity will do everything it can to stop you by attacking your mindset. If negativity can pollute your mind, it will pollute the rest of you. Protect your mindset. See yourself as royalty. See yourself as a beautiful Queen or a great King. You’re not perfect, and you were never created to be perfect. That’s a burden that you shouldn’t try to carry. But it is your responsibility to try to be the best person you can be, and sometimes that is easier said than done, but the truth is….when there is a fire of negativity burning, you can either have the mindset that adds gas to the fire or you can have the mindset that is passing down the water buckets or holding the water hose to help to put that fire out before it destroys absolutely everything in its path.

In conclusion, your mindset matters to this world. Negativity will tell you, your thoughts, your feelings, your life doesn’t matter…but everything about you matters. Your mindset has the power to transform the environment around you. That is why when people want to hurt you, oftentimes they begin with your mind. They begin with highlighting your weaknesses, repeating your mistakes over and over again to you, tearing you down, trying to make you feel small, trying to make you feel worthless and incompetent, trying to bring you out of your positive character, and trying to destroy your peace. Negativity cannot stand to see happy, successful, positive, forward moving people. It cannot stand to see a progressive mindset that is not easily bothered, not easily deterred from its purpose, and focused on a positive future. Negativity will do everything in its power to bring a vulnerable mindset into its misery, and to try to convince you that you don’t matter. BUT YOU MATTER! Your purpose matters. I encourage you to work hard to overcome whatever challenges you face, because I can assure you that someone needs you. Think positive! Be positive! Do positive things!

A Positive Message

Happy Sunday!

It is a beautiful, sunny day here in South Carolina, and I just wanted to take a minute to provide a word of encouragement. This is something I have said many times, but it never hurts to say it again just in case someone needs a moment of inspiration.

As many of us know by now, life is not easy. Life has many obstacles, challenges, and struggles on a daily basis. Every day people are leaving this world regardless of age, race, economic status, or location. So many negative things are happening. Relationships are falling apart. Friendships are falling apart. It seems that our enemies have familiar faces more and more now. Tragedies are taking place all around us, and then there is just simply the daily struggle of living itself. It becomes easy to fall into a pit of depression because life is difficult. That’s why it’s important to take a moment to inspire each other.

No matter how hard life gets, every day that we are granted is a brand new opportunity to take a step forward. It’s a new opportunity to do something positive. It may feel like the world around you is falling apart, and let’s just be real—sometimes the world around us does fall apart. It’s not just a feeling or something you can move past with ease. It really can be a hurtful experience. But, no matter what is happening around you—your God-given purpose is still alive. Every day that you’re alive, your purpose is alive. Every day that you’re alive is a day that you can do something positive to add to the legacy you’re going to one day leave behind for others to be inspired by. Nothing can take your God-given purpose away from you. No challenge, no betrayal, no struggle, no circumstance can ever take away what God has planned for you.

Remember, you are not defined by your struggle. You are still just as important, just as valuable, and just as special as you were the moment God created you! No one’s path is perfect. Learn from every mistake. Forgive others, not necessarily for them but for your own peace. Forgiving others does not mean you are weak, and it does not mean you agree with what they have done. It actually shows strength, and it allows you to release yourself from the burden of the pain and darkness bitterness and hatred carry with them.

A setback is not always a bad thing. Sometimes setbacks are very necessary for your setup for a comeback. Setbacks oftentimes reveal to us what we need to change. Change always should begin with you. Look at yourself and determine what you need to change to become a better version of yourself. You may need to take a look at your circle of friends. It’s hard to do, but sometimes we have people in our circle that are polluting our circle instead of helping to purify it, and they need to be removed. You don’t have to hate people to remove them. Simply wish them the best and move on without them in your circle. You may have to love and care for them from a distance, but always be aware that toxic people will only pollute your progress. Remember, you don’t have to fight every battle that comes across your path. DO NOT waste energy on unnecessary, irrelevant issues that do not add to your progress. Learn how to move on. People may think you have lost in the battle. Sometimes you have to let people think whatever they want to think while you move on to becoming a better person. Learn to recognize what are simply distractions. Negativity of any kind is a distraction. Focus on what is positive and what is going to make you better! So, don’t fall apart when you experience a setback. Oftentimes, setbacks are the journeys we take in order for God to re-route us in the right direction. Many times, they are what is needed in order to experience miracles and blessings! Don’t ever give up in the midst of a setback. Always have faith and keep moving forward! No matter what it looks like or feels like, keep moving forward because all it is, is a journey that is making you stronger, wiser, and even more successful in the end. Remember to appreciate every beautiful thing, moment, and person around you. Cherish all aspects of beauty, happiness, and peace.

You’re going to make it! You won’t be perfect. You may stumble along the way. You may cry and have some bruises, scrapes, and sores. You may have moments when you feel like giving up, and it will feel like you just can’t take anymore. You’re going to be sick and tired of being sick and tired. You’re going to feel stuck and hopeless. You’re going to see everyone else around you seemingly having the best time of their lives while you’re miserable. You’re going to wonder if God has forgotten about you, and you’re going to feel hurt and alone. Guess what? Unfortunately, what you’re experiencing is the hard facts of life. It’s called living, and not every moment is going to be great. And you know what? That’s for everyone…including those people who seem like they have it all together. No one has it all together all the time….no one.

But you’re going to make it, because you’re not going to give up…because God has a plan for you….because you are important….because you do matter….because you’re not defeated….because you are strong….because you are smart…because God will never forget about you….because God does love you.

SMILE because you’re blessed and highly favored!

A 2016 Reflection

2016…what a journey this has been, and it’s not even over yet, lol!!

This has been the year for me to get back on course and to truly focus on things that make me a better person. Sometimes we can get so distracted by life—by the people and the situations around us that we simply forget our own God-given purpose. As I reflect upon the beauty of today… the warmth, the glow, the freshness of what is new…I am reminded that life is not some worthless existence to be so freely handed over to the distractions around us. Life is so much more than the stress, doubts, fears, and hopelessness that try to pollute our days. There’s a lot going on in our world, but nothing can ever change the fact that God has such a beautiful and meaningful purpose for every single one of us! That means we cannot waste our time on things that will not make us better. Every day is a day that we have to move forward to becoming a better version of ourselves than we were yesterday.

I began a weight loss journey the beginning of this year, and so far I have lost over 60 pounds. I am healthier and happier. This was part of my journey to becoming a better me. Before this journey, I had ventured down a path of stress eating and just not thinking about my health. While on that path, I was losing a bit of myself in different ways every day. Emotionally, I felt lost. Spiritually, I felt disconnected. Mentally, I felt drained. Physically, I was just tired.  I needed a change, and a change is just what I received.

Changes can come in different forms, and sometimes you have to take a loss in order to reach your victory. It just so happens, that I lost my job. To many, that would be understandably devastating, but for me it wasn’t devastating at all. It was the release, the blessing in disguise that I needed. Although I enjoyed some aspects of my job, I knew it was time for me to move on, and I was excited about the journey of moving forward…and moving forward is just what I did! I carefully thought about my weight loss journey and what I wanted to accomplish. Five days later, I got started, and I haven’t looked back since. I am currently 62.6 pounds lighter, and I am still moving forward to reach my ultimate weight loss goal.

That wasn’t the only journey I started. I’ve been an entrepreneur for five years now. As you know, I enjoy creative writing. Really, I enjoy anything creative…writing, music, dancing, art, acting…any God-given gift that people are passionate about that truly brings inspiration to people throughout the world. It’s exciting to see people in their element and to see other people appreciate what they are gifted at doing. I’ve spent years encouraging people to live life to its fullest and creating projects to spread inspiration. I am still actively creating those projects with other creative minds, and it has proven to be an unpredictable but amazing journey. It’s not easy by any means. It can be quite time-consuming and disappointing—but it’s still rewarding, and I still wake up every morning ready to start something new!

You can’t be afraid to start new things. I have found that it is truly important to connect yourself to the right people, and sometimes that means new people. I appreciate all of the great moments I have with everyone I meet, but it is important to stay connected to the people who lift you up. These are the people who help you to rise whether it is through connecting you to the right resources, encouraging you, praying for your success, or just genuinely helping you to succeed in any way. If you set a goal for yourself, in order to succeed, you have to surround yourself with people who have the same determination for success as you do. You don’t have to go throwing everyone by the wayside, but it is important to be aware of who plays what role in your life and to make the necessary adjustments. Remember everyone is important and everyone has a God-given purpose, but that doesn’t mean that everyone always travels the same path together to get to the same destination.

I am grateful for my new opportunities. I am grateful for my new fitness journey (I chose Weight Watchers to guide me along), my new (or perhaps renewed) enthusiasm for entrepreneurship, my new career path (because many entrepreneurs do keep a day job too lol), and every new path and relationship that is building my success!

And as I always do and always will, I encourage you to live your life to the fullest! Never give up on your God-given purpose because no matter what happens in life, God’s purpose for you will still remain yours to complete!
